First Christian
Church “Celebrating
Diversity That All May Belong” An
Introduction to First
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) of First Christian Church of As is
mentioned in our mission statement, we seek to be a warm caring community that extends a genuine welcome to all. We seek a faith that is intelligent, practical, emotionally meaningful, provides service to
humanity, and is responsive to life in our changing world. We are a
congregation of The Christian Church
(Disciples of Christ), a denomination
of some 4,000
congregations throughout the
How We Work... A staff that includes both ordained
ministers and lay workers serves our congregation. The church is governed by
the official church board which is composed of persons elected by the
congregation. Women or men are eligible for, and serve in, any of the offices
of the church. While we are self-governing in every respect, we cooperate
with the wider church. In our denomination, there is no pyramid of authority
hi the structure of the church. However, the congregations, the regions, and
the general units are bound together in a covenant of mutual care and
support.
One will notice when visiting our services that
we partake of communion (The Lord's Supper) each week. This is our way of
remembering and responding to the ministry of Christ, His life of compassion,
and His death on the cross. It becomes a very meaningful experience as we
participate in this important act of remembrance and celebration together. |
