First Christian Church “Celebrating Diversity That All May Belong” The Spirit of First Christian We are progressive in our approach to theology and church government. At First Christian, you will find no attempt to dictate Biblical interpretation or theological thought. We are not fundamentalist in our approach to scripture. While having a high respect for the scriptures, we believe all members have the freedom of individual interpretation and that the ideas of each should receive respect and attention. Every member is given the right to follow the dictates of his or her conscience and no one is asked to subscribe to a set of rules for conduct. While some will not be comfortable with such an open approach- to discussion and debate, we believe that it is in the honest sharing of the Christian community that we can truly grow and learn rather than when we have beliefs dictated to us. Because of our acceptance of differences and diversity, people from a variety of beliefs and religious backgrounds find an important uniqueness at our church that is comfortable to them. We desire to be a community that is highly relational and keeps the emphasis on the importance of each individual as a gift from God.
